Your rhythm. Your zone. Your cadence. Right in view.
A running metronome for iPhone and iPad. Practice your chosen steps per minute with a clear visual rhythm and optional clicks. No heart-rate sensor needed.
Choose your target steps per minute and practice following the rhythm. Adjust it with plus and minus as you run, with a cue for every step or every second step. At the same speed, more steps per minute means shorter steps.
Works without a sensor. Guides your chosen rhythm; does not measure your cadence or determine an ideal cadence for you.
02 / OPTIONAL HEART RATE
Less wrist-checking.
Keep your phone or iPad in front of you. Large heart-rate numbers and five clear zones make your effort easy to see without lifting your wrist. Connect a compatible Bluetooth heart-rate sensor and set your own zone limits.
03 / SIMPLICITY
Just start training.
No account. No ads. No subscription. Heart rate, zones and running rhythm together, with just a timer and the controls you need. Works on iPhone and iPad, portrait or landscape.
YOUR TRAINING ZONES
Five zones. Your own limits.
Enter your maximum heart rate in Settings. ZoneBeat calculates five zones using the percentages described by Cleveland Clinic: 50–60%, 60–70%, 70–80%, 80–90% and 90–100%. You can choose Olympiatoppen instead, or edit and save your own limits.
These are reference models, not an individual training prescription. ZoneBeat is not affiliated with or endorsed by either organization.
The app starts in English (US). Norwegian is available in Settings. Changing language does not change your saved zones.

The video demonstrates alternating left–right cues at 170 steps per minute. This is an example, not a recommended target for everyone. Choose your own cadence and adjust it as you run.
20-second screen recording with labelled demo heart rate. This preview is silent; optional click sounds are available in the app.

What does research say about cadence?
At the same running speed, a higher step rate means shorter steps. A laboratory study of 45 recreational runners tested changes of 5% and 10% from their preferred cadence and found changes in stride mechanics, including shorter steps. Heiderscheit et al. (2011)
A review of 37 studies found insufficient evidence to determine whether changing cadence improves performance or prevents injuries. Most studies examined immediate effects, not long-term outcomes. Anderson et al. (2022)
These studies did not test ZoneBeat. The app is a tool for practicing your chosen rhythm, not a promise of faster running or fewer injuries.
